Keeping kids entertained in London can be an expensive game and with the school summer holidays fast approaching it’s a good time
to start some early planning. For the traditional theatre, cinema and West End listings http://www.timeout.com/london is probably  a good place
to start but for more affordable (or free!) listings you could try http://www.kidsfunlondon.co.uk  a listings
site that specialises in exactly this. The following are a few suggestions that are all free:

1. Circus Workshops at the Islington Libraries N1 – If you’re in or near the N1 area, the Islington Libraries have over 40 circus themed workshops on
during the summer holidays that include face painting, animal encounters where you will get to see real live snakes and workshops where you can learn circus skills like juggling. All the workshops are free
though have limited spaces so you need to pre book to reserve a place.

2. Outside cinema screenings at the Broadgate Circle EC2 – Bring the kids down to watch some classic children movies in the open
air. It promises to be a great atmosphere with kids encouraged to dress up as their favourite characters with a prize each day
for the best costume. Runs from the 23rd – 30th July.

3. Nature Trail at the Horniman museum SE23 – During the summer holidays there is a weekly family nature trail that will teach you about
the summer environment, you will learn all about various  insects, animals, birds, trees, plants and amphibians from Jim Murphy
from the Trust for Urban Ecology. Walks are every Wednesday 2pm – 3.30pm from the 27th of July to the 31st of August.

4. New Voices Festival at the Museum of Childhood E2 – Family fun day celebrating the rich diversity of London’s new communities.
Whole host of stuff for the kids including world music and dance, theatre and great food. The festival takes place in the Museum
Gardens and St John’s Church which is next door on the 16th of July.

5. Hands on – Surgical Fun at the Hunterian Museum WC2A – bring the kids along to learn from the museum experts all about surgery and
the instruments that are used. You will be able to hold bones from the museums collections and there is also a paper trail where you
will need to solve a mystery. Workshops run every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon 1 – 4pm from the 26th of July to the 1st of September.
