St. Martin-in-the-Field, London Musical Arts Orchestra Family Concert.  Saturday, 4:30pm, Festival Family Prom.  Come join this child-centered family concert where children are invited to listen and interact with the instruments.  Fantastic value at £8, buy 2 tickets for 2 different concerts and get a 3rd concert free.

Somerset House, Free Drop-In Family Workshop: Design Your Own Water Feature.  Work in various media to produce your own water feature to rival the Safra Fountain Court … it might even be warm enough to run through it.  Fantastic child-centered event if you are out and about in the West End.  Saturday noon – 3pm, ages 6+ but younger siblings warmly welcomed.

Southbank, Beanotown Festival.  It’s the last weekend to enjoy the sandy beach, the wheelbarrow gardens, the greenhouse and rides … it’s all free, for kids young and old.

Thames Festival, The Great River Race: Watch 300 Dragon boats, Viking longboats, Irish cunraghs, to name just a few, make their way from Docklands to Ham, Surrey.  The race starts in Docklands at noon.  Free, good fun.

Gobaby App London screenshot

If you are out and about with a pushchair in London over the holidays, download the best London Baby App to date: Gobaby App.  All London Underground and DLR stations are listed with their push-chair navigation explained in detail through four simple icons.  Once you get the hang of the icons, you can tell by a glance if the station is step-free, has more than 10 steps, has a lift or requires an escalator.  For nervous mothers like me who find the escalators intimidating, but happy to bump the pushchair down a small flight of stairs to get on a lift – this app is INGENIUS and the best £1.49 you will ever spend.

Further, over 1,000 nappy changing restaurants and retailers are listed.  Even better, each restaurant listed has an icon indicating if they have high chairs and children’s menus.  Worried about downloads or your battery dying while you are out?  Search neighbourhoods in list format or view your saved destinations without needing internet access or draining your battery.  Check out The Gobaby App review on London-baby.com and Gobaby App’s review in London’s Evening Standard.

Saturday Films:

Gate Picturehouse, Kids Club: Sammy’s Super T-Shirt. Tickets £1 with £4 membership, popcorn and juice £2. My husband’s rainy day ace in the hole read the review, fabulous value for Saturday morning family time in a great location. Also, head down the road to The Gold on Portobello Road in the heart of Notting Hill and have a fabulous family-friendly meal in a pre-gentrified Notting Hill gem. Be sure to get one of the balcony tables in the atrium area … wonderfully food, cool venue and very family-friendly for slightly older kids.

Electric Cinema, Kid’s Club: This week’s feature, The Smurfs 2; 10:30am. Check out the newly refurbished Electric Cinema in Notting Hill with its plush, red velvet beds, sofas and armchairs. Looks like a great way for Dad to occupy the kids on a Saturday morning. Tickets £8 per person. All ages
