Family Events Saturday 18th January

National Portrait Gallery Half Term Family Workshops

National Portrait Gallery: Storytelling – bring along the little ones, ages 3+, to hear the interesting story behind one of the portraits followed by an art activity. 10:30-11:15 and again 1:30-2:15. Family Art Workshop- walk around the galleries and find out who used quills and pens, then have a go at making your own drawings. 11:30-1pm and again 2:30-4pm. All free, tickets allocated upon arrival.

Half Moon Theatre, Oshima and the Big Sea: A tale of kindness, trusting the unknown and dancing with turtles. Children age 4+. Tickets are £6 each. 11am and 2pm

National Maritime Museum, Family Storytelling. Meet a character from the past on Saturdays at 1, 2 and 3pm. Bring history alive for the kids with this spectacular performance and storytelling. Free, ages 6+ (younger siblings welcome)

Le Institute Francais, Baby and Kids French Tales. Bring the little ones, ages 0-3, this Saturday (11am) to South Kensington and hear the story of Le Cape et D’epee Avec Alexandre Dumas. Tickets £5 plus £1.50 ticketing fee if booked online (members exempt from fee)

Gobaby App has a new Holiday Season of this fabulous app for tackling the London with a pushchair. Gobaby lists every Undergournd, Overground and DLR station with four easy to read icons indicating whether any station is step-free; has 10+ steps; requires escalators; or has lifts along with live service updates. If that is not enough, the app includes over 1,000 changing rooms in various family dining establishments, libraries and shops. Gate Picturehouse, Kids Club: This week’s programme: Turbo. Tickets £1 with £4 membership, popcorn and juice £2.

Barbican Family Film Club: This week’s feature: Frozen. Tickets are £2, bring the kids and escape the cold while you chill and watch a movie. Great price. 11am, all ages.

Electric Cinema, Kid’s Club: This week’s feature, Frozen; 10:30am. Check out the newly refurbished Electric Cinema in Notting Hill with its plush, red velvet beds, sofas and armchairs. Looks like a great way for Dad to occupy the kids on a Saturday morning. Tickets £8 per person. All ages

National Gallery, Studio Sunday: A Bigger Picture. Learn about perspective with artist Marc Woodhead in this artist led drawing workshop. Ages 5-11, 11am-1pm and repeated 2-4pm. Free, tickets allocated on arrival.

Royal Academy of Art Family Art Workshop: Funny Faces - Make your own clay portrait inspired by the Daumier exhibit. 11am-2pm, all ages, free, drop-in.

Camden Arts Centre, Make and Do. Come join artist Judith Brocklehurst to take a look at the current exhibit and have a go at making your own art. 2-4:30pm, free, drop-in, all ages.

The Arts Catalyst, Oxo Tower, Republic of the Moon: Join artist Joanna Griffin for a fascinating workshop based on the lunar landings. Re-enact the landing, and then make your own light-based lunar installation. 2:30-4:30, ages 8+, BOOKING ESSENTIAL

Royal Opera House Family Sundays

Royal Opera House Family Sunday: noon, 25th January, bring the kids for a variety of activities in the Royal Opera House, tickets £3-£5.

Royal College of Music, Igniting Opera in a Day: Ages 6-12, have a mini opera workshop and then head over to the Royal Albert Hall for a matinee performance of La Boheme at the Royal Albert Hall. Tickets £20, and include 1 adult and 1 child ticket to the performance.
