What’s On: London for Families September 13th-20th
Totally Thames Festival: There are lots of interesting events take place along the Thames this weekend as part of the Totally Thames Festival:
Firing on the Foreshore, Bankside: Saturday noon – 3pm, free. Come and watch as Thames clay is fired in driftwood collected from the Thames (a 5,000 year old tradition). At the same time, there will be “Thames Finds” on display – learn how to properly identify clay pipes and Victorian beer bottles you might collect mud larking. There will be an archaeological walk at 1:30. All free, all ages.
Classic Boat Festival, St. Katherine Docks: family activities, floating cinema, music and stalls will surround St. Katherine Docks and the vintage boats moored there. Take tours aboard, or just walk around famous vessels like The Gloriana.
Blue Ribbon Village, Potter’s Fields: Saturday and Sunday, noon-6pm. Head to Potter’s Fields for clay modelling, farm animals, Unicorn Theatre leading workshops, music, food and much more … all free, all ages.
Kings Place Festival, Kings Place: Saturday, 11am-7pm, all ages, £6.50 adults, £4.50 kids. Bring the entire family to a delightful cultural festival offering concerts and workshops for the entire family. From cake decorating, to Guardian Newspaper family workshops, wine tasting (sans enfants), Alice in Wonderland performances … all events are £6.50 per adult, £4.50 per child – but take a look around. One might sit with the kids while the other attends a talk or concert.
Family Fun Day at the Oval, in support of Evelina London: Saturday, 11am – 5pm, free. Head over to the Oval for a scootathon, bouncy castle, farm animals, face painters, balloon artists and more to help raise money in support of Evelina London.
Brixton Bolt, Pope’s Road, Brixton: Sunday noon-3pm, free, all ages. Take part in 100 metre footraces to determine the fastest little boy/girl, big boy/girl, man and woman in Brixton. Initially started in support of the 2012 games, this even is in its third year. BBQ, face painting and good neighbourhood fun. Registration begins at noon, races start at 1pm.
Pumphouse Gallery, Battersea Park: Sunday 11:30-3pm, free, all ages. “What’s the Story?” Join artist Amy Pennington and explore the storytelling and narration through old slides and photographs to make your own artefact for narration.
Stockwell Festival, Larkhall Park: Saturday noon-6pm. Music, rides, workshops, dog show with Battersea.
Curzon Cinema, Victoria: This week’s Kids Club programme: Frozen Sing-Along. Saturday and Sunday, 10:45. £3.50 per person.
Gate Picturehouse, Kids Club: This week’s programme: Matilda. Tickets £1 with £4 membership, popcorn and juice £2. (best £3 you will ever spend on a rainy Saturday)
Barbican Family Film Club: This week’s feature: Mooman and Midsummer Madness . Tickets are £2, bring the kids and escape the cold while you chill and watch a movie. Great price. 11am, all ages.
Electric Cinema, Kid’s Club: This week’s feature, The Unbeatables, 9:30am. Check out the Electric Cinema in Notting Hill with its plush, red velvet beds, sofas and armchairs. Looks like a great way for Dad to occupy the kids on a Saturday morning. Tickets £8 per person. All ages
For Babies and Toddlers:
Chelsea’s award-winning mum and baby activity, Monkey Music, is pleased to announce it is launching a special, new venue Chelsea’s Mermaid Retreat (Chelsea’s gorgeous mum, dad and baby retreat for post-partum overnight stays right on up to toddlers) located right on The King’s Road. Aquababies Swimming Classes: New classes Tuesdays 11:30 – 1pm, few spaces remaining.
