Puppet Theatre Barge, Little Venice
Are you looking for quality children’s theatre in a unique, quirky, London venue? Would you like a day out, one that sums up the best aspects of cultural life in London for kids like no other? Head over to The Puppet Theatre Barge in Little Venice (short walk from Paddington Station) for a day like no other.
This is the most charming theatre venue, absolutely delightful for young and old alike. Set in the quiet and picturesque canal in Maida Vales beautiful Little Venice, The Puppet Theatre barge is a converted canal barge moored at the side of the canal. My camera phone does not do justice to this snug, but magical theatre.
Even better than the barge itself is the world-class puppetry on the stage; the puppets and sets are made by master puppeteers and the sets are all created by master set designers. The theatre boasts school workshops for students interested in learning more about puppetry.
The Puppet Theatre Barge is so perfectly suited for children, the scale is small and the curious details force children to look carefully and closely. The tickets are very good value for high-quality theatre that will not disappoint young or old.
One caveat to the Puppet Theatre Barge, I would not take very small children to see a show. It’s a small theatre and incredibly awkward to remove a fussy toddler from during a performance. That being said, they have intervals at about 20 minutes to make it good fun for small children.
We splurged on our day out to Little Venice and went for lunch at the iconic Warrington Pub beforehand. This was a completely child-friendly pub, with a relaxed atmosphere and grand setting, good food and drinks. They have high chairs and a children’s menu.
