Groombridge Place, Tunbridge Wells

Apr 12, 2015 by

This is not an inexpensive day out, but a great experience and relatively easy to get to from London Victoria, Charing Cross and London Bridge.  The kids will have the best day out exploring the most amazing grounds and get a chance to see some birds of prey, peacocks and much more.

Groombridge Place is an estate boasting 17th century formal gardens and expansive grounds for families to explore about 4 miles from Tunbridge Wells train station.   When it is running, you can access the estate directly from the Spa Railway which leaves from Tunbridge Wells station (check the schedule here), or take a taxi from the trains station (£15 one way for3 adults and 3 children).

There are no indoor activities, so be prepared to be outside much of the day exploring the amazing grounds.  You can take a canal ride (£1.50 adult, £1 child) on a pontoon boat or just walk to the Enchanted Forest where children can play on massive tree forest climbing frame. There are all kinds of curious and ponds, totem poles, hills to climb, deer to see, mind bogglingly long tree swings, boards walks and much more…

There is a raptor centre, manicured gardens, a restaurant … lots of things we were not able to do as my kids took an hour-long archery lesson.  These lessons take place over the school holidays and are great fun – my 6 and 9 year olds equally enjoyed the experience (you have to be at least 6 years old).

This is a beautiful place for families to take a picnic, have a walk and enjoy a fabulous day out.

2 adults and 2 children £29.95 (off peak) £33.95 peak

1 adult £8.95/£9.95

1 child £8.45/£7.45   - all tickets are 10% off when booked online.

Grounds are open from 10am-5pm, last entry at 4pm.  Restaurant on site, picnics welcome.  Pushchair friendly but parts are VERY hilly.  The toilets in the woods are port-a-loos.
