SharedCity - Explore the World Through London

Mar 25, 2016 by

Parents of small children, your days of foreign adventures do not have to be put on hold. SharedCity the almost perfect solution for Londoners to satiate the travel bug without leaving town. I just came across this amazing company and love the opportunity it provides Londoners to dive deeper into knowing their own city.

Forget the cost of transporting a family, the extra passports to remember, the hassle of lugging extra suitcases and awkward car seats and buggies - and even the children themselves, stay in London and go on a discovery with SharedCity.

SharedCity is all about travelling the world without leaving London. Friends and fellow mums, Deborah Chatterjee and Caroline Bourne, set the business up two years ago after realising that even though they’d travelled the world, many of the world’s cultures were literally on their doorstep. Both Londoners from multi-cultural backgrounds, they decided that they wanted to explore and better understand the rich and varied communities present in London.

As they discovered interesting people and places they started to curate fun and immersive mini daycations for friends and family in London, exploring markets, temples, hamams, mosques, and getting to know many different communities inside out.

Forward wind to the present day and SharedCity boasts regular tours to countries such as India, Italy, Brazil, Portugal and Scandinavia – without leaving London of course. On top of this there are tours to Jewish London, Multicultural London and the Central London Mosque. Most tours (please check beforehand) are child/baby friendly and led by authentic first/second generation guides from the community.

On a typical 2-3 hour tour, you’ll have a mini holiday exploring traditions, shops, tasting delicious dishes and visiting a temple or social club. A ticket ranges from £15 to £25 with food often included - and babies naturally go free.

If you can bring at least 10 people together, Deborah and Caroline happy to curate a private SharedCity tour especially for you.

SharedCity also works in schools, organises special dance and cookery days and offers lively cross cultural workshops. Our colourful Indian dance workshop, for aspiring Bollywood stars, is perfect for both adults and children.
