London’s Premier Bespoke Children’s Entertainer - The Musical Adventurists
I have kept very quiet on the topic of Children’s Entertainers on London-baby; years of birthday parties have left me jaded. Blame it on too many “clowns” dressed in cleavage-revealing leotards and miniscule tutus trying to get my kids to dance Gangnam or the numerous passive-aggressive Punch and Judy masters who want three year olds to sit quietly for 45 minutes trying to work out mumbled dialogue – but there is, quite literally, a new act in London Children’s Entertainment: The Musical Adventurists.
Matthew and Lydia (The Musical Adventurists) have captured the perfect blend of live music, movement, silliness, and skilled improv with original storytelling. They take little ones on a unique flight of discovery that draws in young and old alike, inviting everyone to enter a curious world of adventure. This is true, high-quality children’s entertainment. Mathew and Lydia are classically trained musicians working on the scale for children - small and suggestive leading to infinite and majestic. Think Little Angel Theatre with jumping, skipping, games, songs and laughter.
Each party has an original score written for the guest of honour that incorporates all the main themes of a party. Matthew and Lydia ring ahead and consult with you about the party. Suppose Poppy and Oscar are having a joint birthday party. Both kids like pirates, one loves Thomas the Tank Engine and the other superheroes. Whatever the main elements are, The Musical Adventurists will take all the kids on a storytelling, song-singing journey by incorporating each child’s interests into the story and original score preformed live. They cleverly incorporate a few story props, break out the guitar, ukuleles and much more to augment the adventure, taking the kids into a fanciful world created partly by the consultation and partly by Matthew and Lydia using their honed improv skills to guide the children through fun and discovery.
The music is all live, there are no backing tracks. Matthew and Lydia create games and quizzes based on the birthday kid and work these into the journey. They also teach the kids a little dance and song centred on the birthday boy or girl. Fear not, if you have a little one who is not keen on dancing and singing (like my son) they keep their eye on the guest of honour and the group and improvise their way to fun. It is a fantastic way to entertain a group of children.
The Musical Adventurists bring a wealth of professional experience to any party. Lydia and Matthew both trained at the Royal Academy of Music. Lydia was the Children’s Event Coordinator at Beaufort House Chelsea, she was also in the in-house entertainment running 12 parties a week – she has seen and done it all in terms of children’s parties. In addition to winning Edinburgh Festival prizes for his comedy, Matthew writes and performs improv musicals and pantos. He tutors private students in singing and piano in addition to running classes for Stagecoach. A more dynamic duo does not exist for superb entertainment.
They have a few dates remaining for summer, so do book quickly to avoid disappointment.
